Movie I Could Watch on a Continuous Loop

Image
I have too many movies that I would love to watch time and time again. It is actually a bad habit of mine. I can sit and watch certain movies time and time again. The Crow is just a great movie. The story is moving. The soundtrack is amazing. The scene where Sarah goes back to the loft to find Eric makes me cry every time. My favorite part has to be the cinematography. I love the way the movie was shot and edited.

A good friend needs to have honesty

Image
When it comes to friends, I'm pretty selective about who I choose. However, once you are in, you are in for life as long as you follow some basic ground rules. honesty I need to be able to trust the people I surround myself with. Once I have a reason to doubt your honesty, our friendship is in jeopardy. Sarcastic I am sarcastic. It is easier for to communicate with others who are also sarcastic. Plus it is more fun when we can laugh together. Patient I will be patient with you, and I expect the same in return. Uses common sense I'm not a huge fan of people who cannot function and use basic common sense. If you cannot grasp common sense and courtesy, I am not interested. Must at least tolerate birds I have six of them... three boys and three girls. You do not have to love them or even like them, but at least be able to be around them while at my house. Not have it be all about you I'm going to probably keep listening because it is a chara...

WritingTherapy

Image
When my world is getting out of control, there are only two things in this world that make me feel better. One is watching a cheesy movie I should almost be ashamed to admit I would ever watch. I have a handful of them, and they make me laugh every time. The other...and the more effective method is writing. Have desk, will write I sit down with a notebook and pen or with a laptop and just write. I write about what I am feeling sometimes. It can be journaling that will become part of a fiction piece. Sometimes just blogging about it helps. Other times I just research what is bothering me, and then blog about it once I have a better idea of what the big picture looks like. Writing helps me relax, think things out and understand what is stressing me out.

Bucky's is a great people-watching spot

Image
I love to people watch. I have so many places I like to sit back and enjoy the show. Some places are little gems I found while on vacation. Other places are in my own back yard. Some places are even on a cruise ship...and while this one isn't my all time favorite, but it is the one I go to most frequently. Bucky's is one of those places that was just a big mix of different types of people. It is a meeting place for social drinkers, regulars, rednecks, poker players, karaoke junkies, suburbanites who think they are ghetto thugs, blue collar workers, white collar workers, pot heads, cougars, drama queens...and even people like me. Bucky's used to be Bobby Brennan's, and we had weekly karaoke shows there. I enjoyed watching people from all these different walks of live interact with each other. I gleamed a great deal of writing material from observing at our shows. Bobby's closed, and a few months later Bucky's opened in its place. I was afraid the new owners w...

Bring on the ear plugs

Image
There are some songs that are just better when they are played super loud. You can enjoy them at a lower volume, but really they are at their best when you are pushing your speakers to the limit. Fa Fa by Guster It just is a fun song. It is almost a requirement to crank it up and sing along. If you are driving, seat dancing while safely stopped at red lights may be appropriate as well. Bring Me to Life by Evanescence This song is very powerful. The music is perfect and the lyrics are strong and sharp. Songs like this should not be neglected and played at low volume. If you are trying to sing this song, and your voice isn't 100% healthy and strong, just don't bother. Trust me I tried and it just wasn't worth it. Killing in the name of by Rage Against the Machine Um hello! It is a loud angry...

Ggggrrrrrr Allergies

Reasons I Hate Allergy Season 1) My burning lungs 2) Lots of drugs = dehydration 3) Losing my voice every couple days 4) Just walking though the floral department at Marsh sends me into a coughing fit that makes me fear the CDC will quarantine me for swine flu 5) My ears being plugged 6) Choking on my own snot 7) Sinus irrigation sounds about as much fun as it really is 8) Bloody noses…that nearly make me late for work 9) The fear that a someone’s perfume/cologne/smell will not agree with me and my eyes will tear, my throat will swell, and the coughing will commence while I am at work 10) Looking like someone beat the crap out of me on a regular basis. Nothing says good morning like my swollen eyes.

I can't travel without Camera

Image
I am a practical traveler. I try to keep my packing down, and to be efficient. However, there are a few things I can't go without. Camera You never know when you will find the perfect shot Flat Iron My hair isn't straight and can be difficult, so the flat iron and the appropriate hair products must come with me. My laptop I'm a writer...I think that explains it self. Secret caffiene stash I can also buy this on the road, but buying my own and just drinking water at meals saves money. Lip Gloss I love the stuff...I always have multiple varieties on me. A notebook Again it is my thing as a writer...plus it helps me remember the details A map I hate being a tourist, but I also hate being lost. I have a map of where I am, and the public transit map. That way I can figure out exactly where I am going before I head out. I usually make a cheat sheet of the streets, busses or rails I need to know just in case I get confused. My IPOD I...

Call me demanding...but I really wish San Fransico was closer

Image
Here are the facts: I do not like winter. I'm even less a fan of snow. I like the ocean, but I'm not a huge beach person. I wish I lived some where warmer, and that I felt like there were more people like me. I wish there were more of cultural center here. I wish that I could find a people group that feels like home...but I have not had luck. Sadly, I live in Indiana...and I just have to deal. If I could afford to just pack up and move to San Francisco, I would. However, that is not a reality. Now, if it were just a little closer so I could just run away for a long weekend without having to fly across the country that would be fabulous. Actually, if we could get moved close enough to enjoy the moderate climate that would be fabulous. I love the weather, the city, the fog, the culture and the pace of life. Having Chicago nearby is a good consolation prize, but it still has the cold and snow. Honestly, those are the only two strikes against it in the big picture. Still, I wou...

No, Not Today. Not on Rex Manning Day!

Image
Have you ever watched a movie and thought "if those people were real I would so be their friend?" OK well maybe I haven't either, but when I think of my favorite movies I know I relate to some of the characters. That is part of the reason I love them. If I had to pick one movie that I think I could be friends with the characters, that would be Empire Records. The one thing I've always noted about this movie is how they took a page directly out of "The Breakfast Club." Each character identifies a stereotype and each character has a reason we should not like them. They also have a very human side that allows us to like them despite their short comings. Despite their differences, they all come together and support the little dysfunctional family they have created. They seem like a pretty easy crowd to get along with. Actually, if they can all get along with each other, I should fit in fine. I'm not as good looking or quirky as the cast, but personal...

Can't I have both?

Image
Before I had my own computer, I would fill notebook after notebook with stories and ideas. Then when I started using my computer, I still wrote everything on paper. Now I have a hybrid approach. Laptop Bag - Emptied Really it depends on what I am writing and where my mind is. Sometimes I like being able to sit down with a notebook and pen and spend hours writing out notes. Sometimes my best work comes from using the old school outline method. I have each section planned and listed out, and then I type it from there. I like having the written notes or outline to follow as I go along. Other times I love just having my laptop. I can sit and just type and type as the ideas come. In times like this the additional structure would just slow me down. I just go with what is going on my head. This is sometimes scary, but it has also been very productive and rewarding.

The loss of a pet is worthy of tears

Image
To most of us our pets our our kids. They greet us when we come home, miss us while we are gone, and are a huge part of our lives. Losing them can be heartbreaking, and well worth a good cry.

Forget the cats and dogs....bring on the birds

Image
Really, I'm not a cat or a dog person. Between the allergies and the pet care issues, I'm not a fan. I don't know. I mean really I am horrifically allergic to both. Maybe it is because I've had more cats. Maybe it is because cats are generally smaller and less annoying...usually. I like the idea of having a dog to walk for exercise and fun, but the whole needs to go out side to go to the bathroom thing doesn't work for me. Cats are cute and great companions...until I have to be anywhere near a little box. That smell alone can make me gag. Now, my ideal animal is a bird. They are fun and interactive. They talk. They have their own personalities and music preferences. As long as you are good on changing out the papers in their cage, life is good.

My miserable Cedar Point Trip

Image
I love Cedar Point. Used to go every summer and have an amazing time. Even if the weather sucked, it was still a fabulous time. That was until my last trip. That was totally awful. I made the mistake of going with a group of my friends from Indianapolis. The group grew to people I didn't, and at least on person who liked to be the center of attention and the boss of all if us. Cedar Point is best done with a game plan, You start at your favorite ride and then make your way around the circle. That way you have the time to get to all the rides and you are not running back and forth all around the park. I tried explaining this, but it didn't work. We jumped from ride to ride without any organization. I quickly learned I didn't really like the other people my friends had invited, and the final nail in the coffin was when my boyfriend at the time called me to tell me his dog died. By then I was totally over it. I haven't been back since. I can't wait to return and ma...
