My Song Of the Moment

Who I Am
--Jessica Andrews
If I live  to be a hundred
And never see the seven wonders
That'll be alright
If I don't make it to the big leagues
If I never win a Grammy
I'm gonna be just fine
'Cause I know exactly who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

So when I make big mistake
When I fall flat on my face
I know I'll be alright
Should my tender heart be broken
I will cry those teardrops knowin'
I will be just fine
'Cause nothin' changes who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I'm a saint and I'm a sinner
I'm a loser, I'm a winner
I'm am steady and unstable
I am young but I'm able

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends who love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I'm not a country music fan, but this song is me. The first time I heard this song was in a warehouse in Carmel, In. It was one of the songs the band I toured with was covering. I didn't think much of it at first, but after hearing my friend Leah sing it time and time again things changed. I actually listened to the words, and I identified with the song.  Once we came off the road, I pretty much forgot about it.

Fast forward a few years: I'm working for a DJ/Karaoke company part time. I heard a few people try to sing it, but no one quite nailed it like Leah. On my 29th birthday I may have had one too many long islands and decided I was going to try it. Amazingly, I didn't suck. Now it is my song.

Not only do I sing it well:
1) It made my mom cry that night
2) I am the spitting image of my father (carbon copy of his biological mom except I'm taller)
3) Even though my mom isn't here with us any more, she will *always* be my biggest fan.
4) Now (even more than before) it is a testament to every thing in my life. My true friends love me for who I am. They are family, and they have been with me through the worst of it. If I can make it through the past 9 months, I can make it through anything.

I still sing this song at least once I week. It is a good thing I have it memorized. On a bad day I can't promise actually reading the words wouldn't make me cry.
