Attention Span, Focus and Being Able to Share
Writing Prompts:
1.) Describe a memorable first date.
2.) Write about a child you find inspiring.
3.) What do you find most challenging about blogging?
4.) Name a pet peeve you have about how other parents raise their kids. Go on…stir the pot.
5.) We often spend time and energy talking about people in our lives we don’t see enough of. Describe a person in your life you are in contact with often. What does he/she mean to you?

Oh dear, another week where it is hard to choose (and another week where I can't do the vlog because it will make me cry). Ummmmmm: Prompt Number Three
I love blogging. While my dreams of being a writer are pretty much pushed to the back burner, I still have my crazy random blog (the one you are reading now) and my more serious blog as my writing outlet. My biggest issue is staying consistent with my posting volume. I will post daily for a while and then I will not post for weeks at a time. I am trying things like this writing workshop and some blog challenges to break that habit.
although, I contend that blogging would be easier if these guys would actually help...not just block my screen |
It isn't a time thing. I'm an insomniac. I don't sleep, so I have plenty of time on my hands to work on blogs. Now sometimes I'm too tired to properly edit, so yes that sometimes is a rare problem.
The biggest issue is my attention span. Some days I have the focus of the toddler who has been fed a steady diet of mountain dew, pixie sticks and pop tarts all weekend. My mind is all over the place, and sticking to one topic and having it make sense is just nearly impossible.
Other times it will be the other side of the coin: I have something on my mind and it is the only thing I can focus on. It happened tonight. I sat down to write this blog when suddenly I had an idea for my Taking Care of Norm blog and I just had to get it typed up and out. When it works out, it is awesome. However, some nights, what is on my mind just can't be blogged about. It many cases, it is just too personal. It may be the only thing on my mind, and the only thing I want to talk about, but it isn't something I need to be giving details about on the internet. I'm not talking about high end drama. There are just a few of my thoughts that need to stay internal. I'm discovering this more and more as I deal with emotions and revelations from everything that has happened since our accident. Maybe some day it will be time to share them, but for now they will remain my secrets.

I need to find a happy medium. I may come up with some great initial ideas when I'm all over the place, but I don't have the focus to follow through. I may be focused other nights, but so focused I can't look anywhere else. I want this blog to fuse two of my passions: my creativity and my pictures. I need to find a way to keep consistently coming up with ways for those two things to share the spotlight here. I need to commit to redirecting my focus to make this happen.

I'm glad that you have found things such as the Writer's Workshop to find topics to write on. It gives many readers the opportunity to see different writing styles by many different bloggers.
What I have done is keep a separate list of the topics I want to focus on, then try and write posts based on those topics. My problem is actually finishing them, so I feel your pain in trying to finish your posts.
Wishing you the best in skill in finding a way to combine your writing and your photos.
(BTW, I LOVE your blog title)
