Lyric Showdown 3: Who I Am by Jessica Andrews

The Lyrics:

If I live to be a hundred
And never see the seven wonders
That'll be alright
If I don't make it to the big leagues
If I never win a Grammy
I'm gonna be just fine
'Cause I know exactly who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm cluless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends that love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

So when I make a big mistake
When I fall flat on my face
I know I'll be alright
Should my tender heart be broken
I will cry those teardrops knowin'
I will be just fine
"Cause nothin' changes who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm cluless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends that love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I'm a saint and I'm a sinner
I'm a loser, I'm a winner
I am steady and unstable
I am young, but I am able

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm cluless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends that love me
And they know where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends that love me
And they know where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

That's who I am

My two cents:

This is a great song. Actually, this and one other song are pretty much perfect pictures of me (not The Cure song…eh you get the point). Seriously, my dad looks like his biological mom (or as I unlovingly call her biomom) and I look just like her (emotionally that is a mixed bag it kind of sucks to look just like a woman who caused so much pain…but that is another story for another blog) and just substitute Gertrude for Rosemary (as my friend Travis does…each time I sing it…which is at least once a week to close out a karaoke show. I can't look at him or hear him when he does it because I just laugh) and you have me in a song. It reminds me of how lucky I am. Even when things suck, I am blessed beyond all reason. I have people that love me, and really that is what matters. It is easy to forget that sometimes.

What is the second song…well you could guess, or just wait until the next Lyric Showdown to find out!
