30 Day Challenge: Day 15: Favorite saying

Image
In no particular order my favorite sayings are: Oh dear Really??!!?? Oh sweet Lord Um...you might not want to do that True story I'm sorry Why these phrases? Maybe it is better if I just show you the people in my life: Really...need I say more

30 Day Challenge: Day 14: A picture of you last year - how have you changed?

Image
not quite a year...but the best I can do My Hair is longer My hair is darker and not red I've lost weight I can wear that shirt without a tank top underneath it and it isn't obscene I'm not tan :-( I'm not in St Thomas :-( :-( I do not have a Margarita in my hand :-( :-( :-( although I think that is actually a chuck-o-rita...and that makes me even more sad...best margarita  EVER. I'd say I could drink those all night, but really I'd make it to 4 or 5 before things got out of hand. I'm  a little less shell shocked...things still suck from time to time, but it isn't that same constant under lying panic. I have come to terms with the fact that I'm not the person I was before the tornado. It has changed who I am and shaped the decisions I make...good and bad. I've ventured down unknown roads and broken my own rules...again with good and bad results, but I think I'm better for it.

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 13: Goals

Yeah I'm playing catch up...the weekend sort of got away from me. Goals: I have so many of them, and I am not sure how I am going to meet half of them. Still, I keep trying. Here are the top five: I want to be a size 10 by Christmas (if not by Adam and Kelsey's wedding) I want to be brave enough to not run from the things that scare me. I want to find a balance between my Ohio life and my Indiana life. I will finish my current writing project by Labor Day (rough draft only) I will get my apartment reorganized and all my stuff from Ohio moved in.

30 Day Challenge: Day 12: Something you don't leave the house without

There are many things I refuse to leave the house without. I have broken most of the day rules and listed more than one so why not  do it again? Lipgloss. I'm addicted. I may not even be wearing make up, but I at least have Burt's Bees on me. Hair ties. You know, I rarely pull my hair back (mainly because I don't think it is a good look for me), but I always have these on me. I may not even have a hair brush, but I at least have the option of pulling it back. My phone: Sadly this is true. It is my connection to everything...and being so far from Dad I feel better knowing if I'm needed back home they can get in touch with me.

30 Day Challenge: Day 11: Favorite tv shows

Image
heh...I probably should have checked the list before picking my writing workshop prompt....oh well this will sort of be a repeat. In no particular order, here are my favorite TV shows: Chuck (seriously, how can you *not* love Chuck??) The X-files (pre them messing with the final few seasons) The Powers of Matthew Star (aka the reason I had a late bed time once a week...and I had  my mother write a letter to the network when it was cancelled) I really don't remember it, but it must have been good if I was that attached to it. Scrubs (original cast only...not that last season) Burn Notice (aka the show I know I should hate...but I love it so) NCIS (because Abby is my hero) Daria (do I really need to explain this one to you?                                                      8. Dexter (who doesn't love a serial killer who kills criminals...

30 Day Challenge Day 10: What are you afraid of

ha..this will be easy. I will try not  to make it too depressing. We have already had our depressing post of the week: the sound of fireworks (sounds like debris hitting the car) being alone (a friend of mine's daughter made me feel uber craptastic about this one Monday) Justin Beiber (sorry P3 guys...who probably will never read this) severe thunderstorms...driving in them is even worse writer's block: soooo annoying. I lose so much time with this. bad hair days my friends getting hurt...I don't have kids so these guys are like my kids. I hate for anything to happen to them and I would do anything to take their pain away something happening to my dad heights do not bother me as much as the threat of the free fall needles

30 Day Blog Challenge:Day 9: Best movie quotation

Probably only Amy, Adam...and a few other people will get this first one...but its my blog so I can really do whatever I want: Emperor's New Groove [ Kuzco and Pacha are tied to a tree branch floating in a river ]   Pacha : Uh-oh.   Kuzco : Don't tell me. We're about to go over a huge waterfall.   Pacha : Yep.   Kuzco : Sharp rocks at the bottom?   Pacha : Most likely.   Kuzco : Bring it on.   and because I can never pick just one From Empire Records: Joe : [ after Lucas enters ] Lucas! Lucas : Joe! Joe : Where's the money? Lucas : Joe, the money is gone. Joe : Yeah, I know it's gone... but where's it gone to? Lucas : Atlantic City. Joe : Atlantic City?... Is it coming back from Atlantic City? Lucas : [ nervous laugh ] Oh, I don't think so, Joe. Joe : What's it doing in Atlantic City, Lucas? Lucas : ...Recirculating. Joe : Recirculating? Lucas : Yeah. Someone has to be silly around here...why not let it be me?

Canceled but Classic

This week's prompts: Writing Prompts: 1.) A list of 10 old TV shows you’d like to make a comeback. 2.) A post your mom would write if your mom wrote posts. 3.) Do you love it or hate it? An open letter to your child’s latest obsession. 4.) We just celebrated America’s Independence! Write a poem about what freedom means to you. 5.) It’s hot, the kids are home and crazy, our pets are panting, the days are long…share your number one Summer Survival Tip. This week's blog is sponsored in part by prompt #1 I must have horrible tastes in television shows, because most of the shows I love, end up cancelled. Seriously, if I get  whole season, I am a happy camper. Of course there are some obvious ones like Firefly and Arrested Development that immediately come to mind, but I have some other ones too that are worth mentioning.   I'm not sure some of these count as "old" but lets run with this and see what we find. Veronica Mars: I really did like this show. I think i...

Sometimes You Just Aren't Feeling It

Image
Who doesn't love the Fourth of July? For years it has been my second favorite holiday (after Halloween of course). It brings up memories of a house full of cops/friends, the smell of french fries, being able to hear the band in the beer tent from my front porch, rides that always made me sick (I rode them anyway), mom's cooking, the beer tent, and of course the fireworks and Roger Weber's soundtrack we've been using since the early 90's. I love it. Seriously, give me a bucket of Frank's french fries (from the top of the hill), an elephant ear (from the vendor about 6 spots to the right when you get to the bottom of the hill) and a pitcher of beer. I'm set until we go to Jo Jos (or I have to walk home to use the little girls room). Even if the band sucks, the people watching is AMAZING. I seriously saw the whitest and drunkest Cupid Shuffle ever there last year...and I work for P3 so that is saying something. I'm related to one in the middle and ...

Because I'm A Slacker: Days 7 and 8

Image
Day 7: Favorite movies In no particular order Dark Crystal Emperor's New Groove   28 Days Later Psycho (the original...not the remake) Vertigo The Crow (guaranteed to make me cry *every* time) Empire Records (judge me as you will) Alice in Wonderland Dream for an Insomniac  The Nightmare Before Christmas Day 8: A place you've traveled to USVI: St John My sister and I went to St Thomas last fall, and while we were there we took a morning trip to St John for shopping and mimosas...and to be chased by wild chickens. Okay...maybe we weren't chased by wild chickens. They are all over the island though. It was a nice place to spend our morning!

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 6: A picture of something that makes you happy

30 Day Challenge Day 5: A song that describes your mood

Image
Ugh...another tough one. Well usually not. Typically the song stuck in my head is somehow tied to my mood, but that isn't the case today (Pink's *aka the original version she co-wrote and recorded for her 5th album  but didn't make the final cut and is on her greatest hits album...not Adam Lambert* of Whataya Want From Me is just catchy). Plus I'm just in a weird mood, so this doesn't help. I'm a little sad (and this song is the last song that made me burst into tears) Pink: Who Knew I'm feeling kind of conflicted...about a lot of things Garbage: I think I'm Paranoid Guster: Either Way btw...best.song.ever and a little silly Brian singing Total Eclipse...so tone deaf...so classic so there you have it. It is sort of a weird mood today, but it could be much worse :-)30

30 Day Challenge Day 4: Your Parents

Image
I've been looking at a blank screen for 2 hours...I can't come up with the words for this prompt today :-( Instead I am going to recycle from my other blog... It was Labor Day weekend. I had gone home to see dad, and while I was there I stopped by the cemetery. This visit started like most others: 1) Park the car 2) Talk myself out of the car 3) Stand there for a minute until I'm ready to talk This time I didn't just talk. I yelled. It wasn't fair.  I didn't know what I was doing. I had no idea how we were going to pay for things once the insurance stopped paying. I couldn't find things I needed to find. Despite some valiant efforts from some great people, my first birthday without her was awful. Her choices and mistakes were now on our shoulders. I was mad. I was mad at my dad too. He is still alive, but with the stroke things had changed. He will always be my Dad, but the parent dynamic isn't the same. He can't get out and take care of ...

30 Day Challenge: Day 3: Your first time away from home

Image
When I was younger, I of course went to camp.  I went on vacation with my grandparents: I went on youth group trips, band trips, even my senior trip to the Bahamas, but I consider my first time away from home to truly be college. It was my first time to live "on my own." Honestly, I loved it so much I almost never wanted to move home again. There was no one to report to. There were limited rules. There was no dog to trip over as I tried to fumble through the house in the dark. I could be as independent as I always had wanted. The only thing I missed was the extra space and the things we discovered we needed (that we always used of our parents). I made some great friends: and some became lifelong friends It prepared me for the next phase in my life: and for the next

Attention Span, Focus and Being Able to Share

Image
Writing Prompts: 1.) Describe a memorable first date. 2.) Write about a child you find inspiring. 3.) What do you find most challenging about blogging? 4.) Name a pet peeve you have about how other parents raise their kids. Go on…stir the pot. 5.) We often spend time and energy talking about people in our lives we don’t see enough of. Describe a person in your life you are in contact with often. What does he/she mean to you? Oh dear, another week where it is hard to choose (and another week where I can't do the vlog because it will make me cry). Ummmmmm: Prompt Number Three  I love blogging. While my dreams of being a writer are pretty much pushed to the back burner, I still have my crazy random blog (the one you are reading now) and my more serious blog as my writing outlet. My biggest issue is staying consistent with my posting volume. I will post daily for a while and then I will  not post for weeks at a time. I am trying things like this writing workshop and some blog chal...

30 Day Blog Challenge--Day 2: Meaning behind your blog name

Image
This is actually the second name of my blog. It used to be  A Little Bit Of Everything...and I hated it. The catch was, I couldn't come up with anything better, so the title stuck. About nine-ish months ago, I changed it to something a little more fitting: Of Course I Hear Voices, I Own Parrots. I'm always running and doing something these days, and I'm sure I appear crazy. I have been known to talk to myself. The good news is the only voices I hear come from my pets: my parrots They talk. They even talk back. My flock is a shy bunch, and they typically do not talk in front of strangers, but occasionally Popcorn and Batty  will oblige. I had one cockatiel that said "hello" every time I opened my old flip phone. Actually, he would get agitated when I would get a text and not say hello. I think it is fitting.

Midterms...ugh

Image
This is what midterms has done to my desk. This week is insane. I will probably make someone cry by the end of the week...but it is an unfortunate reality. Next week will be better, and we will have enough staff to get caught up.

30 Day Challenge: Day 1

Image
As many of you know, my name is Jenni. I am from Ohio, went to school in Michigan and about a decade ago thought Indianapolis was just a stopover...I'm still here. I'm the girl with the dark hair and glasses frames 15 things you need to know: I hate having my picture taken I'm particular about who I let get close to me (emotionally or physically: see the people who can touch Jenni list) I'm not a huge fan of surprises I have a short attent...wait. What was I talking about? I'm dyslexic I'm an insomniac I'm sort of the mom of most any group I'm a little protective of my friends (and by a little I mean if you mess with them I will release the hounds on your arse) I'm a textbook "fixer" I wish I had more time to travel If I'll write a blog post about it...and it pertains to you...I won't say anything in my blog that I won't (and in most cases haven't already) said to your face Aside from Google maps, I use my ...

Getting Inked

Okay folks, despite my fear of needles, I'm finally buckling down and getting a tattoo. I'm shooting for my birthday, but it may have to wait until later. It will be going on my back...either at the top and in the center or n the back of my right shoulder. Oh and it is going to be small. That is about as far as I made it in my decision process. At first I wanted an angel, but then I thought just the wings, halo, and the date of our accident would be better. I haven't really found anything I really want yet though. I know I will probably just go with a design the shop already has in their books, but I want to have an idea of what I want before I go in there. I sort of like these http://t.co/Tjsn7EL http://mytattooink.com/images/tribal-tattoo-angel-wings.jpg http://t.co/tVvjlAC http://t.co/ZYmxa0d But I'm not sold on anything quite yet.
