Lyric Showdown 3: Who I Am by Jessica Andrews

The Lyrics: If I live to be a hundred And never see the seven wonders That'll be alright If I don't make it to the big leagues If I never win a Grammy I'm gonna be just fine 'Cause I know exactly who I am I am Rosemary's granddaughter The spitting image of my father And when the day is done My momma's still my biggest fan Sometimes I'm cluless and I'm clumsy But I've got friends that love me And they know just where I stand It's all a part of me And that's who I am So when I make a big mistake When I fall flat on my face I know I'll be alright Should my tender heart be broken I will cry those teardrops knowin' I will be just fine "Cause nothin' changes who I am I am Rosemary's granddaughter The spitting image of my father And when the day is done My momma's still my biggest fan Sometimes I'm cluless and I'm clumsy But I've got friends that love me And they know just where I stand It's all a part of me ...

Old School: Poltergeist the Legacy

I've been recording old episodes of Poltergeist the Legacy lately, and I've come to some new realizations: At first I liked Rachel, but as the series went on her character bugged me more and more. I kind of understand why they even introduced the Kristin character, but not really. I didn't dislike her, but they didn't utilize her well and I never could really get behind her as a character. I just don't like Derek…there is something just a little too sketchy about him. Actually, the actor that portrays him was later on an episode of NCIS where he played a sketchy, adulterer, murderer combo, and he did it so well. I really do love Alex and Nick…and even though I know they never get together I still have shippy moments. My favorite episodes are the ones that focus on those two characters. Well minus the one where Nick's ex gets struck by lightening. What was the deal with only having part of the cast in each episode? One episode I watched today only had Nick and Al...

Things you would learn about me on a road trip

Image
Road trips are always interesting. They are also moments where the crazy we keep on the inside boils over a little. What would we learn about you on a road trip? Well for me... I sing when I drive Radio...no radio...I sing and drive. Basically being in a quiet car makes me and the fids nervous. It all started when I was learning how to drive. Being in a silent car made me a nervous wreck. I'm convinced the only reason I passed the test is because the test proctor talked to me the whole time. Now it is just habit, and for some reason my singing calms down the birds on road trips. I'd rather drive than be a passenger Maybe I'm just a control freak, but I cannot stand being a passenger for too long. Although, with my Blackberry and the ability to maybe catch a movie on my laptop will change this. Wow....aside from the Ohio trip with the fids I have not been on a good road trip in years. Basically, I get motion sickness so I can't read or write on a moving vehicle. Fal...

Lyrics Showdown #2 Two Points for Honesty by Guster

The Lyrics: If that's all you will be You'll be a waste of time You've dreamed a thousand dreams None seem to stick in your mind Two points for honesty It must make you sad to know that Nobody cares at all I wanna be where I've never been before I wanna be there and then I'd understand Know I'm right, and doing right Could I get to be like that How to know, but I don't know I've nothing more to gain Will I get better? Or stay the same? I found I always move too slowly Can't lift a finger, can't change my mind I never knew till someone told me that If that's all you will be You'll be a waste of time You've dreamed a thousand dreams None seem to stick in your mind Two points for honesty It must make you sad to know that Nobody cares at all And all the people who've seen it all before And all the people who already understand Know they're right, and done it right Could I get to be like that How to know, but I don't know It ge...

Miss Weddnesday

So yeah really I'm just checking out the camera on the new phone but she is cute! Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®

More Sprint Follies

My poor phone had one heck of a day today. I know it is just a phone…but now I am kind of starting to feel bad I will be putting it out to pasture tomorrow…or Wednesday if the office doesn't sign for it when UPS delivers. It isn't that my phone is old, bad, or unworthy. However, last week I made the commitment to make my writing my full time focus. Of course, I still have to keep my full time job for now. I'm lucky enough to have a decent job that usually doesn't suck, pays relatively well and has pretty good benefits. I will need that to keep the bills paid until I have enough work to make ends meet. Still, that also means I need a phone with more memory. I love my Blackberry Pearl, but memory is an issue. My Sprint contract was up in March, and after some stalking, Sprint backed down. I didn't want to use my upgrade and then be stuck with the Curve for two years. I know Sprint leaves a lot to be desired for most people. I agree that for the most part their custome...

Lyric Showdown #1 Either Way by Guster

The Lyrics: You were almost kind You were almost true Don't let me see That other side of you You have learned in time That you must be cruel I'll have to wait to get the best of you Poison in everything you say Don't you, don't you Wonder what difference does it make Either way... You were almost kind You were almost true Why give away that other side of you Happens every time So it must be true Step on a kid they'll grow up hating you Poison in everything you say Don't you, don't you Wonder what difference does it make Either way... Were you ever kind? Were you always cruel? Who's ever seen that other side of you? Happened every time So it must be true Where did you learn its either him or you? You were almost kind You were almost true Don't let me see that other side of you You have learned in time That you must be cruel I'll have to wait to get the best of you Poison in everything you say Don't you, don't you Wonder what difference ...

Emotionally Charged Songs

Image
Generally, songs do not make me cry. However, I have strong emotional attachments to certain songs. Either Way by Guster This isn't a big cry song, but I'm if I am in the right mood it can bring the tears. This is probably my favorite song of all time. It was that song that made me fall in love with the band. The lyrics are beautiful and haunting...I so love it. I guess they sort of remind me of me...especially the person I was at the time I heard the song and the person I have become in the past few years. Guster by So Long Again, this isn't a huge tear jerker, but the lyrics can get me if I am in a certain mindset. These lyrics remind me of the one relationship I honestly wish would have ended differently, but at the same time I have no regrets. The relationship was short, but it taught me what love really feels like. I can only hope to find that feelin...

Guilty Pleasure: Burn Notice

I will admit…this show is pretty cheesy. The acting is so-so, but I can't stop watching it. Let me explain: The "How to" voice overs. Usually, I'm the first one to say using the voiceover is a cheap way to get out of writing dialogue. However, I wouldn't want to watch this show any other way. Yes I am a fan of the How to be spy voice overs. There is something about them that is classic. The X-files esque captions. You know the ones that were made to look like on the screen they work as an exposition fairy. The cute little improvised hacking device was funny, but the whole "Canteena" title made it hilarious. Bruce Campbell: The Evil Dead movies…need I say more OK…the whole Royal Pains commercial where he is writing the letter to "the not funny guy from Good Morning Miami." And one of the objects is a block of C4, "because you never know when you will need a stable plastic explosive." Honestly, it isn't a deep show, it isn't a t...

Why Must I get Wasted on my Birthday

Why Must I Get Wasted on my Birthday? I’m turning 30 on 7/16. I’m trying to not let this depress me too much. Sometimes I am successful, other times not so much. It is going to happen whether I like it or not, so I have decided (in my infinite wisdom) to just try and make the best of it. I have taken the whole week off of work. This is to mainly just relax and enjoy myself, and because I know I will be having at least one emotional break down over that another decade in my life is over and there is so much I have not accomplished. I’m a girl. I will have a stupid girl moment, and I would prefer not to have that happen at work. Plus it is rally the last time I can take time off before August. We are not allowed to take time off in August because of peak (aka LATE) registration. Really, all I want for my birthday is a typical Thursday night at Bucky’s and for my friends to be there. Now when I invite people out and tell them why I want them there, the first words out of their mouths are:...

Only in dreams

Image
I usually do not remember my dreams, but when I do they are usually very vivid and very realistic...and most times almost haunting. Actually, it isn't the details I remember more as the feelings and only flashes of the images remain. Recently, my dreams have either been weird mixes of people and situations in my life. They never quite make sense. Sometimes they are just strange. Other times they are haunting. I wake up feeling unsettled. It isn't always that they are traditional nightmares. Sometimes they are just too real, and waking up is either a let down or just to weird. Two nights ago I seriously only netted 45 minutes of sleep, but the dream in that 45 minutes was so real. It was one of those dreams where things aren't perfect, but you have the things you most desperately want In my case I was working from home (down to 2 jobs vs 4), and I had someone else to help when I needed it. I don't know if I will ever have either of those. I had just made the decision e...

I have been lucky enough to see Citizen Kane in the theater

Image
Yes I know. This may seemed cliche, but just hear me out. I really do love this movie. I am a HUGE fan of film noire, movie history, and like most brain washed former film students think Orson Wells (hey did you know he was the voice for Mr. Masters aka Higgins boss who owned the mansion and ferrari...that you never see on Magnum PI </end film geek/DiNozzo from NCIS moment>) is a pretty smart and innovative guy. The movie is beautifully shot, well scripted and just plain well done. However, my reason for loving it most is a little different. Citizen Kane is the only movie I have seen that was made before I was born that I have seen in an actual movie palace. I had the unique honor of seeing this classic in the way it was supposed to be viewed. When I was in college, there would be free viewings (complete with free popcorn and a drink) at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. It is one of the few movie palaces that at the time still had its old projector, an orchestra pit AND ...

Learning from a Cockatiel

I have a five month old cockatiel named Weddnesday. She's totally adorable, but still very rebellious. One issue she has is that her wings are clipped. She will not have flight feathers for at least another month (her six month molt). That means she cannot fly. Actually, they clipped ALL her flight feathers so she more so just flutters and then plops to the floor. When I clip my birds, I usually only clip the first five feathers on each wing. This way they can still get distance but not altitude, and it keeps them from just falling like a rock. One would think after a few rough crash landings she would get that currently her wings do not work. Instead, she keeps trying to fly with the others. I can't imagine falling to the ground is pleasant. Nor do I think she's a big fan of breaking more tail feathers (broken tail feathers = balance issues and baby birds really already have enough of those). However, she keeps trying. She knows the negative consequences, but she tries at...

I get by with a little help from the web

Image
I wish I had some funny and cute story about how the internet has helped me out. The internet has helped me in three big ways: 1) Making Money 2) Reconnecting with old friends, and networking 3) Saving Money Of course there is the making money. I am able to run my own writing business. Now because of my full time job and my other part time job I have a limited amount of time to work on it. So no, I am not supporting myself, but it does help me pay for little things like vacations and nice little extras here and there. My dream is to do this full time, but for now the little extra spending money is nice. Plus it is taking me to Vegas in September. I love getting to get reconnected with old friends. Even if we don't become BFF's it is cool to see where everyone is. It is also nice to network and get connected with other people I can learn from and support. I also use the internet to save money. I find travel deals, coupons and research ways to make the buck stretch.I like havin...

Hook up the diet dr pepper

Image
If I could have one thing piped into my house like water, I would choose Diet Dr Pepper Diet Dr Pepper Cherry Chocolate Plain and simple: I am a caffeine fiend. I drink it to get me going in the morning. My consumption is much more under control than it was in college. Actually, I have really cracked down on it over the past year. I try to drink more water and limit my daily drink count. I drink more when I am stressed but even then I try to keep it check. However, it is annoying to have to remember to buy it, I'm not saying I wouldn't pay for it, but it would be nice if the supply came directly to me. This is as opposed to having to make a special trip to Target. Also, if I could have one installed at work that would be fabulous,

'Life Jump Started' will help pass the time

Image
If I had jury duty again today, I would probably take my own novel, Life...Jump Started with me. I know it is my own book, but I'm currently looking for my next must read (don't suggest Twilight okay), and it would give me time to really look at it with fresh eyes. Well this book has all the essentials. It has the love story, life lessons and a little bit of a twist. This is actually my book, but I haven't actually read it since the whole publishing process. I know that is sad, but I just have been focusing on getting through my other book list (Most recently Pride Prejudice and Zombies), and working on other projects. I am currently working on what appears to be my next novel project. I have other smaller novellas in the works, but I see this project as being a bigger undertaking. I want to take the time to really read my first novel and see what things I did well, and where I need to be more careful this time. If I do not take the time to learn from my past proj...

I'm not all about camping

When I was in fifth grade…maybe sixth grade…my parents finally caved and took us on the church’s annual Memorial Day camp out. You see we were really not campers. Actually, we had never camped as a family before. My grandparents had bought an old RV more so for travel ease, and we had a tent, but that was about as close as I ever wanted to get. My parents’ church group kept trying to get us to go, but year after year we declined. That is until the fateful year mom finally said yes…and it was miserable. It had rained quite a bit that week, to the sites were all muddy. My dad actually had to work most of the weekend, so my poor mom was pretty much on her own to do all the “grown up” work. My sister ran backwards into a parked car. My brother got his foot stuck in a snake hole. I managed to get a fish hook stuck in my ear. My sister and her friend locked themselves in the bathroom in the rv not once, but twice. It was a nightmare. We tried again at the end of my freshman year, and it was ...

'Fabulous' sounds so sweet

Image
I love words. I'm a writer so that is sort of a no brainer, but I really do wish more people would use their words more effectively. I listen carefully to lyrics, and I love well written imagery. I always tell my students to use their words to draw me a picture. Here are my top 5 Fabulous It is a multi functioning word depending on the iflection and context. It can be literal, or it can be sarcastic, sardonic, ironic, fun, sad,mean...you get the point Hinky It isn't a curse word, but it equals messed up, just not right, or odd in a different way. Seriously I had this one before Grey's Anatomy made it common place. I like it for the sarcastic factor. Ubiquitous This might be my favorite word of all time. It is an odd looking, and not commonly used word, but I love it. It means ever present (aka everywhere). It was the word of the day on one of my TV writing classes (Thank you Dr. Watson!) We used it while I was touring with Laredo, and now I use it wi...

I will never forget Saint Malo, France

Image
The summer I turned 16, I went on a trip to France. I of course was looking forward to Paris, Mount St Michel, Nice, our day trip to Monaco, and the other big stops. I wasn't not looking forward to the other places, I just wasn't familiar with them. There isn't any big touristy trap in Saint Malo. I know some of my classmates were annoyed we stayed there. They came to France to see the big ticket items. This was just a waste to them. However, I discovered I really liked this walled city on the English Channel. There was history there. I wish I could go back now with a better camera to capture some of the great shots I remember.

This summer, I'll be eating strawberries

Image
Summer is always more fun and relaxing that the Spring season. It also brings cook outs, warm weather, cocktails by the pool, and of course...strawberries. Strawberries (La Trinidad, Benguet) I love strawberries. Yes I know you can get them year round, but they are in season in the midwest during the summer. That is the best time to enjoy them! There is nothing quite like strawberry shortcake with ice cream on a warm June day. It reminds me of going to the "strawberry place" in Elmore (More currently known as Klickmans these days) and picking up crates of strawberries. You could pick our own, but we never did. I'm guessing my allergies had something to do with that. However, it does not take away from that happy memory. I look forward to this every summer. Maybe I'll find a farm outside of Indy this year. I think that would be a fun Sunday drive.
